Supporting 2SLGBTQIA+ Tourism in Penticton

Travel Penticton looking to double the amount of Rainbow Registered businesses in BC

Penticton, BC – Pride month may be over but supporting inclusive tourism and the 2SLGBTQIA+ community is important every day of the year.

Having LGBT+-friendly policies in your company is the right thing to do, and it’s also good for business. That’s why Canada’s LGBT+ Chamber of Commerce (CGLCC), in collaboration with Tourism HR Canada, launched the Rainbow Registered LGBT+ Friendly Accreditation Program. The program standards focus on four key areas, including policies and practices, training, commitment to inclusive leadership, and a culture of inclusivity. Travel Penticton and the Penticton Visitor Centre recently received the Rainbow Registered accreditation.

When you see a Rainbow Registered symbol, you know the business or organization meets a stringent set of standards to ensure LGBT+ customers feel safe, welcomed, and accepted. Travel Penticton is excited to be part of a national network of LGBT+ inclusive organizations. They are one of 10 accredited businesses in BC, and one of only 3 in the Okanagan Valley, but would like to see that number continue to grow.

To support this growth, Travel Penticton is providing funding for Penticton tourism and hospitality businesses to support inclusive tourism. The funding will assist up to 10 local Travel Penticton member businesses in obtaining their Rainbow Registered accreditation – Canada’s only national standard for lgbt+ safe and welcoming spaces, to double the number of accredited businesses in BC.

According to some reports, the LGBT2Q+ market—which spends approximately $12 billion on travel every year—is one of the first that will be spending their money on travel in a post-pandemic world. LGBT2Q+ travellers are often highly educated with disposable income that they want to spend in welcoming destinations at businesses that align with their values; having the Rainbow Registered accreditation will signal to this important and valuable travel market that you’re ready to welcome and serve them.

Canadian businesses and organizations of all sizes and from any industry are encouraged to apply. Help build out our network of Rainbow Registered businesses in Penticton and show your commitment to a more welcoming, accepting and safe LGBT+ customer and staff experience.
