Summerland and surrounding areas, you are in for a treat: the BIG BAND EXTRAVAGANZA returns on Saturday, June 14 at the Memorial Park band shell! In June of last year, the Extravaganza attracted hundreds of people who gave wonderfully positive feedback.

Tunes from the 40’s on up will be played, so expect to hear a predominance of standard tunes for big bands, along with blues, 70’s rock with big horns, and a variety of other styles of the bands’ choosing. Most bands have great singers as well! Here’s the line-up, allowing a 15-minute changeover time in between performances:

12:00 – South Okanagan Big Band (of Summerland)
01:15 – Okanagan Valley Big Band (of Vernon)
02:30 – Lake Country Big Band (of Lake Country)
03:45 – Thursday Night Jazz Band (of Penticton)

All these bands contribute to charities by way of fundraisers. The musicians are not only willingly paying their own way over to play for you … they are also on a mission to help raise funds for the Summerland Community Centre! So naturally, the proverbial “hat” will be passed around to welcome contributions of any size. Come support their efforts, and enjoy – bring your lawn chairs and some refreshments and take in some fantastic music!

With the current construction along Wharton Street, attendees may want to consider parking at the public parking lot at the corner of Brown and Victoria, or on another street in the downtown area. Better yet, carpool if you can.

Note that in case the weather does not cooperate, the event will take place indoors at the Summerland Community Centre, 9710 Brown St., with seating for about 100 people, for admission by donation. (Sorry, no bar or kitchen service will be available.)
