Looking for a wonderful combination of live music, local artists and artisans showcasing their work and a glorious setting among spectacular trees, shrubs, perennials and annuals? You’ll find it all at the Art and Music in the Summerland Ornamental Gardens event on Sunday, August 25. This is a perfect Sunday outing where you can relax and listen to live music from the Windjammers Woodwind Quintet, talk with the artists and peruse their works and take in the unmatched setting of the historic gardens. The event takes place from 11 am to 3 pm. Admission is by donation. Bring a picnic lunch to eat in the shade!
The five members of Wind Jammers met while performing with various ensembles throughout the Okanagan. The chance to play in a classic wind quintet was an irresistible opportunity, and it didn’t take long for the members to bond as a lively, cohesive group. Throughout the pandemic they rehearsed outdoors, often in public parks, where they attracted much interest. The quintet has performed at numerous events including BC Choirfest, Mackie House Tea, Kelowna Art Gallery Reception, Central Okanagan Heritage Society’s Concert Series, Vernon Museum Concert Series, Lake Country ArtWalk, and Vernon Proms. Wind Jammers has an extensive repertoire ranging from light classics to sentimental favourites.
