A Taste of the Black Sea - Turkish Regional Dinner Series at Elma
Join us for the first in our new Turkish Regional Dinner Series, an intimate, interactive evening that celebrates the seven diverse culinary regions of Türkiye.
We begin our journey in the Black Sea region – a lush and soulful corner of northern Türkiye known for its misty mountains, fertile fields, and comfort-driven cuisine.
This event will feature a multi-course traditional menu prepared by Executive Chef Cenk Akkaya, who hails from Türkiye, and hosted by Elma’s owners, whose family roots trace back to the Black Sea coast. Guests will be guided through each course with stories, regional history, and cultural context, offering a one-night immersion into the foodways of northern Türkiye.
Expect purely traditional dishes, quite different from our usual modern interpretations. Everything from warm, yogurt-based soup and golden cornbread to stuffed greens, anchovy rice, and the beloved dessert Laz Böreği.
To make the evening even more special, the experience will include:
– A welcome cocktail, the iconic Black Sea, from our opening menu
– Meze paired with a pour of rakı for an authentic taste of tradition
– Interactive moments — watch Chef Cenk prepare Kuymak, the region’s signature cornmeal and cheese dish, live tableside
– House-made sour cherry liqueur, to sip alongside your dessert and Turkish coffee
– Stories from the Black Sea, shared by the Elma team
This dinner is designed for connection, learning, and cultural appreciation – a true celebration of Türkiye’s regional heritage brought to life in the Okanagan.
Only 20 seats available. Ticket price is per person and inclusive of all taxes and gratuity.
