1. Bike the Kettle Valley Rail Trail

For outdoor enthusiasts, the Kettle Valley Rail (KVR) Trail is a must. This historic rail trail offers incredible views of the Okanagan Valley and is accessible to hikers and bikers of all ages. One of the most popular routes is from Penticton to the Little Tunnel, an approximately 32km round trip which provides panoramic views of Naramata, Penticton, and Okanagan Lake. The trail is relatively easy and suitable for all levels, making it a great activity for the whole family. 

2. Explore the Historic S.S. Sicamous

No visit to Penticton is complete without a visit to the historic S.S. Sicamous, a beautifully preserved sternwheeler that once sailed the waters of Okanagan Lake. Docked on the shore of Okanagan Lake, this heritage site offers a fascinating glimpse into the region’s past. The S.S. Sicamous is the largest surviving sternwheeler in Canada and has been meticulously restored to its former glory. Visitors can tour the ship’s elegant staterooms, grand dining areas, and even the engine room. It’s a unique opportunity to step back in time and learn about the vital role the ship played in transporting goods and passengers throughout the Okanagan Valley during the early 20th century.

3. Wine Tasting in the Naramata Bench

Penticton is at the heart of one of Canada’s premier wine regions, and the Naramata Bench is home to over 40 wineries. 4. Float the Penticton River Channel

One of Penticton’s most iconic summer activities is floating down the Penticton River Channel. This lazy river experience is perfect for those hot days when all you want to do is relax and soak up the sun. Tube and shuttle packages from Coyote Cruises make organizing this activity a total breeze. Drifting along this 7-kilometer channel that connects Okanagan Lake and Skaha Lake is a leisurely way to enjoy the natural beauty of the area while keeping cool.

5. Discover the Penticton Farmers’ Market & Downtown Penticton Community Market

Every Saturday morning from April to October, the Penticton Farmers’ Market takes over a the 100 block of Main Street. It’s one of the largest and most popular farmers’ markets in the region, offering a wide variety of local produce, artisan goods, and delicious treats. Stroll through the market, meet local farmers and artisans, and enjoy the vibrant atmosphere. It’s the perfect place to pick up fresh ingredients for a picnic or to sample some of the region’s best culinary offerings. 

The Penticton Downtown Community Market take place right beside the Farmers’ Market every Saturday from 8:30am-1:30pm and runs until September 7th this year. Enjoy hundreds of vendors who feature handmade goods including clothing, food and jewelry, collectibles, antiques and furniture, as well as the weekly food vendors, live music and entertainment that combine to create a fabulous downtown vibe!

6. Relax on the Beach

Penticton boasts some of the most beautiful beaches in the Okanagan region. Okanagan Beach is located at the north end of the city along Lakeshore Drive, and just steps away from great restaurants such as Sociale, Elma, and KOYA when you want to break for a bite. Skaha Beach is on the South end of the city and is surrounded by ample greenspace, sports courts, playgrounds, and even a splashpad for the kids, making it a great spot to spend the day with the family. At either beach, responsible consumption is approved in designated areas, so you can even enjoy some of Penticton’s local craft beer with your toes in the sand or a bottle of Okanagan wine with your picnic lunch!

7. Attend a Summer Event or Festival

Penticton hosts a variety of events and festivals throughout the summer, from music festivals to art shows and food and wine celebrations.

Ironman Canada comes to Penticton Sunday, August 25, 2024. Cheer on these amazing athletes and don’t miss the Official Ironman Entertainment Garden that same weekend, on August 24 & 25 for all the fun, including inflatable games, live music, and delicious local food and beverage.

On September 1, 2024, Penticton is excited to hold the first ever Penticton Latin Rhythm Festival at Skaha Lake Park. This event will bring together culture and community with  a variety of Latin foods, free salsa dance lessons, Latin performers and more.

The Pentastic Hot Jazz and Music Festival is a 3-day multi-venue music festival that will have you dancing the night away! Enjoy live music from talented blues and jazz musicians from September 6-8, 2024.

The Penticton Dragon Boat Festival returns to Skaha Lake on September 7, 2024. This event is incredible for athletes and spectators alike. Check our Skaha Lake park as it comes alive with community. camaraderie, and competition! 

Save room for summer fun, and ribs at the SummerCamp Rib Festival, happening September 13-15, 2024. This three-day extravaganza promises a nostalgic journey filled with laughter, games, music, and delicious eats, creating memories that will linger long after the summer sun sets.

Hockey fans won’t want to miss the Vancouver Canucks Young Stars Classic, happening at the South Okanagan Events Centre September 13-16, 2024. This year marks the 11th edition of the Young Stars Classic, featuring prospects from the Vancouver Canucks, Calgary Flames, Edmonton Oilers, and Winnipeg Jets in a four-team, round-robin tournament format.

8. Get out on the lake!

If you’re looking to make the most of a summer day in Penticton, getting out on the lake is a must!
