A DUO EXHIBIT BETWEEN PAINTER AND PHOTOGRAPHIC ARTIST
TWO DISTINCT MEDIUMS & THE FEMININE DIVINE
A collaboration between Jenny Long and Long Gallery studio resident, award-winning photographer, Robert Kenney, FRAME OF REFERENCE is about representing the female body in a way that transcends its immediate social and politicized implications and translations into recognition of the sublime. It is an invitation to see past social and cultural conditioning and to explore the intuition, sensuality, mystery, inclusion, creation and oneness of the feminine.
Sharing two distinct mediums with a common goal and thread to create artwork from a place that transcends time and space, the relationship of Jenny and Robert is one of a mutual recognition of interests, process and play in creating this show.
This joint exhibition presents abstract nudes painted by Jenny in partnership with Robert’s exquisite collection of his “wetplate collodian” photographs (an early 19th century photographic process) involving female nudes. The works represent a deep respect for the “divine feminine” referenced through the goddess cultures that predate and eclipse the current paradigm. Rather than using other figures to create from, Jenny felt it was the most exciting to be inspired by Robert’s very felt and sophisticated photographs. Their work is impacted by international art where nudity is embraced in its beauty rather than sexual nature.
