The Burying Ground
Saturday, May 5th
Doors 6pm Show 8pm

“Built around core players Woody Forster (Vocals and Guitar) and Devora Laye (Vocals, Washboard, and Saw), The Burying Ground lay out a feast of southern old timey acoustic gems that pay homage to southern Americana and goodtime blues inspired by the ghosts of Charley Patton, Memphis Minnie, and The Mississippi Sheiks.” — David Morrison (Folk Radio, UK)

A band that shines when performing live, The Burying Ground has been charming audiences large and small across Western Canada and the United States, lending new life to old songs while performing original tunes. Known for their songwriting, they aim to shed light on aspects of the human experience that resonate into the modern day, touching on mental health, the traumas of war, social justice and good old fashioned lost and found love.

They have a lively, gritty sound with tight harmony and a driving rhythm section reminiscent of the music of the juke joints and jazz halls of the 1920’s and ’30s. The band moves effortlessly between toe-tapping dance music, the yearning of country blues and the embellishments and energy of ragtime and jazz.

“While they may be devoted to the precious music of a long gone golden era, they still have an awful lot to offer the present and future, as music this good is evidently timeless.”
David Morrison, Folk Radio UK

“If you have the opportunity to see The Burying Ground perform, do not miss their innovative musical interpretation of blues and rags, with a modern perspective, that few bands have mastered.”
— Greg Keffer, Fraser Valley Blues Society
