Come out to the Penticton Art Gallery on January 19th, at 6pm for the chance to hear Sophie Labelle, Canadian webcomic, artist, speaker, author and cartoonist.

Sophie is the creator of Assigned Male Comics, a webcomic and series of zines addressing issues of gender norms featuring the character of 11-year-old Stephie, a trans girl, discovering and embracing her gender. Labelle has said that while working with transgender children, she “noticed how negative everything we tell them about their own body is, so I wanted to create a character that could respond to all those horrible things trans kids hear all the time”.  She has made educational guides to go with the comics, to promote safer spaces for trans youth.  She is active in the transgender rights movement and speaks on the subjects of trans history and transfeminism.

Her worldwide Serious Trans Vibes Tour lands in Penticton after stops in New York City, Connecticut, Maine, Vancouver and many other amazing places. Sophie will be giving a talk then there will be a chance to ask her questions too!

Tickets are $20 and are available on Eventbrite and at the door, before 5:45pm the day of the event.
