Roy Forbes at The Dream Cafe
Friday, September 22nd
Doors 6pm Show 8pm
Roy Forbes, formerly known as “Bim”, is that rare BC artist with a street named in his honour in his hometown of Dawson Creek, BC. Roy brings with him a great batch of original songs nearly 50 years in the making. He also travels with an in-depth knowledge of jazz, blues, country, rock ‘n’ roll and folk music.
Roy started “up north” in the ‘60s. Performing as “Bim,” he had his brush with stardom before becoming one of Canada’s most respected and best-loved singer/songwriters. With ten solo records and two more with his UHF companions, Shari Ulrich and Bill Henderson, Roy has left much for posterity. His CKUA Radio show, “Roy’s Record Room”, recently celebrated its 11th year. As a performer, he is a master of the stage, establishing an electrical connection with audiences.
Only one year ago in 2016 Roy Forbes made the announcement to his loyal fans and beloved friends and family that he had lost his eyesight due to an accident. Little did he know then, that although his vision had darkened, that the following year would be filled with so much musical light, recognition and career highlights.
This past July, marked Roy’s return to the 40th Anniversary Edition of the Vancouver Folk Music Festival performing in concerts and workshops throughout the weekend. Roy was also honoured to be asked to close the festival and lead the finale with Ferron, where they both performed their fan favourites in a magical audience sing-along.
Shortly afterward, on July 28, The BC Entertainment Hall of Fame (BCEHOF) announced its 2017 BCEHOF inductees, which included singer/songwriter Roy Forbes. These seven new StarWalk Stars will join the 275+ previous inductees who have been recognized for their significant contribution to the province’s entertainment industry and cultural landscape.
Roy is also currently in the studio recording new music, written over the past year and a half. His new tunes are a perfect complement to his existing catalogue and have already been enjoyed by his audiences at his recent performances.
