Pecha Kucha Penticton: Fireside Stories
Open your mind, warm your heart and toast your spirit of adventure at the next Pecha Kucha Penticton speaker series event this Thursday, December 6, 2018. With the cozy ambiance of a fireside chat (and hearty beers available from Cannery Brewing to complete the mood) event presenter Cowork Penticton is proud to bring you Fireside Stories: intrepid accounts of derring-do, personal firsts, nail-biting journeys ̶ and undoubtedly a few stray embers flaring up on the big screen true to Pecha Kucha’s usual slideshow style. These Fireside Stories are sure to satisfy everyone’s hunger for s’more(s).
We’ve stoked the evening’s lineup with crackling tales from 11 inspirational speakers, including a prize-winning odd couple, Bathtub Brewers Ricardo Matias and Arnd Zschocke; rigourous and whimsical new winemaker Costa Gavaris; globetrotter Merle Kindred; epic mountain-bike explorer Clee Roy; as well as well-known local restaurateur Nikos Theodosakis, who’ll be sharing the film-making techniques he’s using to inspire learning in schools around the world.
Pecha Kucha ̶ Japanese for “chit-chat” ̶ is a speaker series that originated in Tokyo in 2003. It has since grown into an international movement with events in more than 1,000 cities around the world. Based on a simple format ̶ 20 images x 20 seconds ̶ presenters each get 6 minutes and 40 seconds to tell their stories in an engaging and fast-paced slideshow format. Held four times a year here in Penticton, this consistently sold-out not-for-profit happening brings together a diverse range of Okanagan thinkers, doers and storytellers who never fail to create a spark.
