Leila Neverland (b. Leila Naderi: 1985) grew up snow-birding between the Florida Keys’ Islands and East York in the City of Toronto.
When her father got diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease the family moved to Texas, whereupon freaking out, she recorded her first solo piano and voice album at age 16 (and a second at 18).
At age 21, she received an undergraduate research grant from UBC and lived with the Berbers in Morocco’s High Atlas Mountains under the UNDP’s umbrella, where she interviewed youth about their perceptions of urbanization. Soon after graduating with a B.A., she recorded her third and fourth back-to-back albums on acoustic guitar. Then BOOM! Pregnancy.
She released an original concept album as the live score to a theatre production called Transcending Orbit; She won 3rd Place at the PNE Star Showdown competition in Vancouver; She released a five track demo on Bandcamp, recorded by an employee of Bryan Adams’ Vancouver studio; She initiated Kelowna’s Pianos in the Parks’ program; She created a successful community art and music event about inclusivity; And started her first commercial trio just under two years ago, with a demo released on Spotify.
