Jack Garton & The Demon Squadron at The Dream Cafe
Jack Garton is an entertainer. Best known for his work as a singer, songwriter, accordionist and trumpet player with Vancouver’s Maria in the Shower, Jack has also performed as a dancer with Kesseke Yeo, is a founding member of the Dusty Flowerpot Cabaret (theatre) and has shared the stage with Geoff Berner, Buffy St. Marie, Amanda Palmer, Imogen Heap, Jason Webley, Wax Mannequin, Chris Hadfield and many others.
Over the last ten years Jack has toured Western Canada and the USA, Europe and the UK performing close to 1000 shows, releasing 3 Maria albums and honing his style as a songwriter and raconteur. This summer, armed with a new EP of songs and a new book of poetry, Jack is hitting the road again with a mission to deploy rhythm, words and music to new and familiar audiences.
Jack Garton’s Demon Squadron is a powerful new band featuring Jack at the helm of deep grooves and mad ideas in the style he pioneered with Maria in the Shower between 2004-2014. The Demon Squadron is a band of howling blues-dub sorcerers. It’s backbone is a trio of Amrit Basi on drum set (Blackberry Wood, Something About Reptiles, Inject), Michael Alleyne on bass (B. Wood, Reptiles) and Jack on accordion, trumpet and voice, welcoming frequent collaborators on saxophone, trombone, organ and backup vocals.
Mixing ocean rain and city smoke into a sound spell, the turbo touring trio pins you to the air and rocks you there. Irreverently mixing musical styles and approaches, they fling the door wide open, welcoming all to the squeezebox dance party!
